Owlboy Wiki
Fan-Made Community WikiA story-driven pixel adventure where a mute owl boy named Otus flies through a hand-painted sky, carries his friends as living gun turrets, and fights to save his village from sky pirates. Ten years in the making, and still the high-water mark for pixel art.

What is Owlboy?
Owlboy is a story-driven platform adventure from Norwegian studio D-Pad Studio, released on PC in November 2016 after nearly a decade in development. You play Otus, a mute owl boy who can fly freely, lift objects, and carry allies who shoot for him while he navigates.
What separates it from other Metroidvanias is the flight: instead of running and jumping, you hover, climb thermals and reposition mid-air, then swap gunners on the fly to match enemy shields. The hand-drawn pixel art and Jonathan Geer's 67-track orchestral score are the two things players mention most, and a free 10th Anniversary Update in November 2026 added auto-aim, the Super Dash and cutscene skipping.

Eight sections cover flight basics, boss order, Buccanary Coin routes, area maps, the twelve achievements, the ending, platforms, and every gunner in the roster.
Owlboy Beginner Guide: Flight Basics
Owlboy never explains its own flight model twice, and the first hour is where most new players stall. This walkthrough covers hover, carry, gunner swapping and the settings you should change before the first dungeon. A straight run is about 8 hours, 10 with side content and 13 for full completion.
Owlboy Boss Fights in Order
Boss encounters arrive in a fixed sequence and you cannot farm or skip ahead, so knowing what is next is worth more than any stat. This list runs through every named fight from the caves under Vellie to the Tower of the Owls, with the phase count and the gunner that shortens each one.
Owlboy Buccanary Coin Locations
Coins are the only permanent upgrade currency in Owlboy, and they are deliberately placed off the critical path, which is why so many players finish the story under-upgraded. Spend them at Buccanary's shop for trinkets, and sweep each zone before the plot moves you on.
Owlboy Map & Area Routes
Otus moves through a fixed run of zones and the story rarely lets you fly back, so a missed side route is gone until the next playthrough. This module lays the zones out in the order the game opens them, with the detours that are easiest to fly straight past.
Owlboy All 12 Steam Achievements
Owlboy ships twelve achievements and half of them are hidden until they unlock, which makes the list look shorter than it is. The six visible ones are all collection-based and can be planned; the hidden six are one-off gags and side interactions you have to know about in advance.
Owlboy Ending Explained
The last hour of Owlboy is scored almost entirely by its soundtrack, and the track titles double as a synopsis of what the ending is doing. This module maps the final run, the Solus fight and the Anti-Hex, then covers what the game deliberately leaves unanswered. Full spoilers throughout.
Owlboy Platforms & Versions
The same game, four releases and six years apart, with one free patch tying them together. This is which platform got what, when each version shipped, and where the ports differ enough to matter.
Owlboy Gunners & Abilities
Otus never lands a hit himself: every point of damage comes from a friend he is carrying. Four characters can be held as gunners, and their kits overlap far less than they look. Ranked by how often a kit is the only answer to a room, not by damage numbers.
Twig. Webbing stuns and slows, and the grapple hook is the only way through waterfalls, wind and the long gaps built around it. Twig is the kit that gates progress rather than damage.
Alphonse. A short-range musket with the highest burst in the game and a cooldown to match; it burns vines and bushes, and after the 2026 update his Blast finally lands on Spikeballs and choppers.
Geddy. Fast, accurate, low damage and the only gunner who never needs a cooldown. His blaster breaks obstacles the spin attack cannot, and post-update you can throw him into webbed walls.
Anne. A one-off escort gunner during the Battle of Advent. Her walking stick is melee, but it pierces armour Alphonse cannot scratch and knocks bombs clear across the screen.
